Just in: Fire engulfs building, renders landlord, tenants homeless in Warri

Fire have engulfed a building just as it rendered the landlord and its tenants homeless in Warri,Delta State. The incident occurred at about 3pm on Friday July 31 at Emebiren Street, Okumagba Layout in Warri.

It was learnt that the fire started from a furniture workshop.

It was alleged that an apprentice (little) was making use of litre closed to a generator and it exploded setting the workshop ablazed. 

The fire almost burnt down a commercial tricycle parked by the side of the road before it spread to the next building owned by the landlord. 

Our Correspondent who monitored the situation reports that the more tenants tried to rescue their properties the more the fire rages. 

Residents helped to quench the fire as they called for assistance from the Delta State Fire Service.

No sooner than later,  Officials of the Delta State Fire Service arrived and prevented the fire from spreading to other compounds in the area. 

An Official of the Fire Service, Churchill Cyprian in a chat with Our Correspondent said they responded to call and promptly rushed to scene and created a breach so that the fire will not escalate to other buildings. 

"After creating the breach, we faced the fire for us to quench it."

Cyprian who spoke on the challenges,hinted that they(Fire Service) informed the Police "B" Division of the incident before the arrived the scene. 

He noted that the Police assured them that they will send their men to the scene of incident. 

According to him, the Police responded swiftly by deploying their men to the scene.

He advised that when the emergencies, residents should allow the officials to  carry out their professional duties and not try to help them do their work.
