18-year-old arrested for vandalising 3rd Mainland Bridge, recover 20 road studs
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspect, Dogara John, for allegedly vandalising critical road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The suspect was apprehended on April 6, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m. while reportedly tampering with reflective road studs installed on the bridge to enhance visibility for motorists.
Police said the suspect was caught in the act of removing the road studs, which are essential for guiding drivers, particularly at night and during adverse weather conditions. A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 vandalised studs found in his possession.
The Command noted that the installations play a crucial role in preventing accidents on the busy bridge, one of the most heavily trafficked routes in Lagos.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and destruction of public infrastructure.
He warned that such acts not only pose serious risks to public safety but also undermine government efforts aimed at maintaining order and protecting critical assets across the state.
The police boss further called on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, especially around public infrastructure, to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
