President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following an overnight attack in Worro community where suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly killed several villagers.

The President said the new military command would lead Operation Savannah Shield, aimed at curbing the activities of the attackers and safeguarding vulnerable communities in the area. He strongly condemned the assault, describing it as barbaric and targeting defenceless civilians.

In a statement, Tinubu denounced the perpetrators as “cowardly and beastly,” accusing them of deliberately attacking soft targets in what he called a “doomed campaign of terror.” He expressed anger that the victims were killed after rejecting what he termed an extremist ideology.

President Tinubu said the attackers targeted residents who refused attempts at indoctrination. “It’s commendable that the community members, even though Muslims, refused to be conscripted into a weird belief that promoted violence over peace and dialogue,” he stated.

The President stressed the need for coordinated action, urging federal and state authorities to work together to provide relief for affected residents and ensure justice is served. He said efforts must be intensified to ensure that those responsible for the killings are apprehended and prosecuted.

Tinubu also offered prayers for the victims and expressed sympathy to grieving families. He condoled with the people and government of Kwara State over the tragic incident.

The statement was issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on February 4, 2026.
