A human rights activist, Comrade (Amb.) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, on Friday commended TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) for its effectiveness in combating pipeline vandalism and illicit oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

Agberen’s statement, sent to our correspondent in Warri, highlighted the role of High Chief (Dr.) Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, and High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Pondi, Chairman and Managing Director respectively, in steering the security outfit to success.

The activist made the remarks at a time when some youths in Warri and surrounding communities were calling for the revocation of TANTITA’s contract.

“If not for TANTITA Security’s positive impact, the region would have been a den of crimes compared to the security challenges we are facing now,” Agberen said.

He added, “Having engaged many youths through the benevolence of these two great Niger Delta figures, crime rates experienced significant decreases, especially in sea piracy and other criminal activities.”

Agberen further stated, “The security firm has undoubtedly delivered substantial benefits to the Niger Delta region’s inhabitants, with funds being utilized prudently. Nonetheless, the people of this region merit greater consideration, particularly regarding representation within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.”

He also cited the efforts of Chief Ayirimi Emami, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Warri, noting that Emami employed youths in Warri and across Delta State, irrespective of ethnicity, during the peak of EGTL projects.

Agberen urged government at all levels to prioritize youth engagement and employment opportunities, emphasizing the need to expedite such initiatives. He observed that the notable accomplishments of TANTITA Security starkly contrast with government shortcomings in providing for youths in recent times, especially considering that the surveillance contract is temporary.
