Joy, tears and broad smiles swept across major markets in Warri as Tan-Villa Parliament staged a birthday giveaway in celebration of the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Kestin Pondi, distributing ₦13 million to traders.

The outreach, themed around the motion attributed to Pondi “It makes me happy to help other people” was led by the chairman of Tan-Villa Parliament, Matthew Ogbowei, popularly known as the "Warri General”. The initiative targeted small-scale traders who were selected through a ruffle draw competition across Warri as part of efforts to support livelihoods and ease economic pressures.

Beneficiaries were drawn from several markets. At Effurun Market, Mrs. Christiana, an onion and yam seller, and Mrs. Elohor, who trades in tomatoes and pepper, received support. Jigbale Market beneficiaries included Miss Charity, a fresh fish seller, and Miss Juliet, who sells vegetables.

At Igbudu Market, assistance went to Mrs. Doris, a food items trader, as well as another beneficiary who has sustained a business selling articles such as batteries and lighters for over two years. In the Main Market (Ogbe-Ijoh), Mrs. Akpomi, a fish seller from Amaseikumor who has struggled with mobility for more than five years, was supported alongside Miss Destiny, a plantain seller.

The gesture extended to Okere Market, where Miss Mercy, who sells periwinkle and fresh crayfish, and another trader dealing in garri and plantain benefited. At Polokor Market, Mrs. Botus, known for selling pure water and food-grade plastics, also received assistance.

Traders operating within NNPC Junior Staff Club, Bendel Estate, Warri were not left out. Beneficiaries included a food vendor Ovis Fruit Island who sells small chops and parfait, and Mama T General, famed for her “anointed Isiewu” and Nkwobi. This summed up the amount spent to 13 million naira.

Across the markets, the atmosphere was emotional as traders openly expressed gratitude. Some shed tears of relief, others broke into smiles and prayers, while many described the support as timely and life-changing. Residents of Warri hailed the gesture as a true reflection of High Chief Pondi’s philanthropic spirit and a meaningful way to mark his birthday.

Organisers said the initiative underscores Tan-Villa Parliament’s commitment to grassroots support and community development, while celebrating a leader whose legacy, they noted, is defined by compassion and service to humanity.
