Police rescue four kidnap victims in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued four persons abducted by gunmen in Ewu forests, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

The victims were freed from the kidnappers’ hideout during a coordinated security operation. 

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on February 2, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., when five armed men suspected to be kidnappers blocked the Ewu–Ajekuta Road and forcefully abducted four occupants of a Toyota Sienna vehicle.

Following the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Otu-Jeremi Division mobilised operatives who immediately launched a rescue operation.

“In collaboration with sister security agencies and vigilant members of the Ewu community, the operatives pursued the suspects. The sustained and coordinated effort resulted in the successful rescue of all four victims,” the statement said.

It added that the rescued persons were taken to a hospital for medical attention, while security operatives continue to comb the bush in a bid to track down and arrest the suspects who fled the scene.

“The rescued persons were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention. Two expended 7.5mm ammunition rounds were recovered from the scene, while intensive bush combing and manhunt operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement read.
