Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has urged the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State to continue supporting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, assuring that the government remains steadfast in delivering on its MORE Agenda for the people.

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called on the Ijaw ethnic nationality in Delta State to sustain their support for the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which he said is deeply committed to implementing its MORE Agenda for the overall development of the state.

Guwor made the appeal on Wednesday when he received the Executive members of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, led by its Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar, during a courtesy visit to his office in Asaba.

Flanked by his Ijaw colleagues in the Assembly Hon. Oboro Preyor, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. Pereotu Oloye, and Hon. Ebitonmo Alapala the Speaker commended Governor Oborevwori for his inclusive leadership and developmental strides across both riverine and upland areas.

He noted that the current administration has embarked on numerous road construction and infrastructural projects across the state, many of which are completed or ongoing, particularly in Ijaw communities.

“The level of concentration in Ijaw nation has increased in the present political dispensation. The last administration tried, but the Ijaws are experiencing more under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration,” Guwor said.

The Speaker urged the IYC and Ijaw leaders to continue promoting peace and constructive engagement, emphasizing that positive acknowledgment of government efforts encourages further development.

“I implore you not to be part of those who only see faults and never acknowledge progress. Appreciate government’s good efforts when you see them it opens doors for more,” he added.

Guwor further assured the delegation that the House would continue to advocate for the inclusion of Ijaw youths in empowerment and capacity-building programs. However, he clarified that the Assembly is not a revenue-generating institution but would continue to leverage its influence to attract interventions for all communities.

Earlier in his remarks, IYC Western Zone Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igaramar, commended Governor Oborevwori for his developmental efforts in Ijaw areas but appealed for accelerated completion of key projects, including the Ayakoromo Bridge.

He also called for greater recognition of the Ijaw Youth Council by the state government and other stakeholders, stressing that the group’s peaceful disposition should be encouraged.

Igaramar praised the Speaker and other Ijaw lawmakers for their effective representation and commitment to youth development, noting that the IYC Western Zone covers Bayelsa, Delta, and Ondo states.

The visit was concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the IYC Western Zone Chairman by Speaker Guwor.
