Delta Police Nab Four Suspected Robbers, Drug Peddler in Asaba
Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected armed robbers and a suspected drug peddler during separate operations in Asaba, the state capital.
The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the arrests were made following intelligence-led raids by different tactical units.
According to Edafe, on October 1, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), B Division Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware, led his surveillance team in a swift response to a distress call about a robbery around the BONSAAC axis of Asaba. A female victim was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects.
“Working with local vigilantes, the team arrested one suspect, Amara Nwako, 21, while his accomplice fled into an uncompleted building. A locally made pistol was recovered,” Edafe said. He added that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a secret cult group, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.
In a separate raid, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by Commander CSP Nosa Alex, stormed a suspected criminal hideout near Basket Market, Asaba. Three suspects—Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19) were arrested, and one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered.
Similarly, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, Asaba, led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, in collaboration with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck loaded with suspected illicit substances. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Dennis Uruma, was arrested, and the contraband was seized.
Edafe urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies, assuring that the Police will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to dismantle criminal networks, recover weapons, and disrupt drug supply chains in the state.
The arrests come amid intensified security operations across Delta State, following a surge in cult-related violence, armed robbery, and drug trafficking in Asaba, Warri, and Ughelli. Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has consistently reiterated the command’s resolve to clamp down on criminal elements through intelligence-driven policing and community engagement.
