The implementation of Nigeria's tax reform has received a major boost as Delta and Ondo States record breakthroughs in tax harmonisation.

The Joint Revenue Board, JRB, has commended both states, describing their actions as significant milestones in building a unified, business-friendly tax system for the country.

In a statement on Thursday by its Communication and Stakeholder Liaison Department, the JRB congratulated the Delta State Government after Governor Sheriff Oborevwori assented to the Delta State Tax Harmonisation Bill.

The Board also lauded the Ondo State House of Assembly for passing the Ondo State Harmonised Tax Bill, saying it represents a crucial step in strengthening tax administration in the state.

According to the Board, the achievements of the two states demonstrate strong commitment to eliminating multiple taxation, promoting transparency and simplifying revenue collection at the sub-national level.

It noted that harmonisation will not only improve voluntary tax compliance and boost investor confidence, but will also ensure sustainable revenue generation for development.

The JRB emphasized that a simplified and efficient tax system remains critical to supporting businesses and strengthening Nigeria's overall fiscal framework.

"Together, we are building a simpler, fairer and more efficient tax system for all Nigerians," the statement added.
