Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope for a better Nigeria by 2031, saying she wants to leave the Presidential Villa and enjoy improved infrastructure and easier travel in her later years.

She made the remarks on Friday, October 23, 2026, during the inauguration of the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots political mobilisation group campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that I, as a 70-something-year-old woman, will enjoy,” the First Lady said.

According to reports, she cited ongoing changes at Nigerian airports as an indication of progress, expressing her desire to travel across the country more quickly and conveniently.

“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,”

During the event, Remi Tinubu also responded to Nigerians who question the achievements of her husband’s administration, suggesting that those who fail to see the changes might need what she described as “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses.”

The remark came as political activities gathered momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.

The First Lady subsequently inaugurated the movement’s Abuja headquarters and expressed support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

She urged members of the organisation to take their campaign messages directly to communities, engage residents respectfully and listen to their concerns, aspirations and expectations.

According to her, grassroots mobilisation should go beyond visiting homes to promoting messages of hope, peace, unity and development.

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, convened by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has been expanding its mobilisation activities across several states ahead of the next presidential election.

The First Lady’s appearance at the campaign headquarters inauguration came amid other public engagements focused on education, technology and youth development.

On October 23, she also performed the foundation-laying ceremony for a Renewed Hope Startup Hub in Wuye, Abuja. The project involves the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

According to reports, she described the initiative as part of efforts to promote technological advancement, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship and job creation among young Nigerians.

In another recent engagement, she announced a ₦2 billion Learners Retention Support Programme alongside plans to distribute two million packs of sanitary towels to girls in public basic education schools to support school retention and address menstrual hygiene challenges.

Her latest remarks place emphasis on the Nigeria she hopes to experience after 2031, when she expects to leave the Presidential Villa, with improved infrastructure and convenient transportation among her aspirations.
