Oborevwori Mourns Uduaghan, Says Delta Will Never Forget His Legacy
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid a condolence visit to the family of former Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, CON, describing him as a great leader whose contributions to the state’s development would never be forgotten.
Uduaghan died on Monday at the age of 71.
Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and senior government officials, visited the former governor’s widow, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, and other family members.
Earlier, the governor joined family members and dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick, to receive the former governor’s remains at Osubi Airport.
Speaking during the visit, Oborevwori said the outpouring of grief and the number of people who gathered to mourn Uduaghan reflected his impact on many lives.
He described the deceased as his former boss and a significant influence on his political journey.
“He was my boss. He gave me the highest political appointment, Special Adviser, in 2007. That is something that really touches my heart. You are all aware that he supported me throughout this journey,” the governor said.
Oborevwori remembered Uduaghan as a calm, articulate and thoughtful leader whose public service created opportunities for others and contributed to the development of Delta State.
He particularly commended the former governor for building Asaba International Airport, describing it as an enduring asset and a major part of his legacy.
According to him, Uduaghan’s willingness to undertake projects beyond narrow ethnic considerations demonstrated his commitment to the progress of the entire state.
Oborevwori said his administration would continue to recognise and preserve worthy projects inherited from previous administrations, while improving them where necessary. He cited the ongoing modification of the Effurun Roundabout Flyover as an example.
“He has gone, but he can never be forgotten by Deltans,” he said.
The governor also signed the condolence register, expressing sympathy with the bereaved family and the people of Delta State.
“I am saddened by the demise of the former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan. He was a great boss. I commiserate with his beloved wife, children, family members and Deltans over this great loss,” he wrote.
“May God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Your impact in Delta can never be forgotten. Asamaigor, RIP.”
Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015
