Bayelsa Govt Imposes 24-Hour Curfew on Biseni Community

The Bayelsa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area following a breakdown of law and order.

The curfew, ordered by Governor Douye Diri on Friday, takes immediate effect as security agencies move to restore peace and normalcy in the community.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabra.

According to the statement, the governor issued the directive after receiving briefings from security commanders on the situation in Biseni, where some individuals reportedly barricaded roads leading into and within the community and set bonfires.

“Following the breakdown of law and order in Biseni community in Yenagoa Local Government Area, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has placed the community under a 24-hour curfew,” the statement said.

It added that the directive took immediate effect.

The statement said Diri had also directed security operatives to take necessary measures to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

The governor urged residents to remain law-abiding, assuring them that his administration would continue to take necessary steps to protect lives and property across the state.
