Suspend Commissioner Ashibogwu from your cabinet, Delta CDHR to Oborevwori, calls for his arrest, prosecution by Police, DSS

The Delta State Branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR today urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to immediaty suspend the Commissioner for Basic&Secondary Education, Dr. Ashibogwu from office and his cabinet over the alleged murder of a Deputy Director in the Ministry, Mr. Unity Ekwevugbe just as it called for the immediate arrest and possible prosecution of the Commissioner and anyone involved in the dastard act by   the Police and Department of State Security, DSS with the Delta State House of Assembly conduct immediately an Independent investigation into the death of a level sixteen (16) Deputy Director, Mr. Unity E. Adeda who was allegedly beaten to death by the Commissioner's aides and Police orderly. CDHR Chairman and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen and Comrade Nosa Overseey made the call in a statement sent to Our Correspondent in Warri. 

The CDHR also called for the arrest and possible prosecution of the Commissioner and anyone involved in the alleged assault, unlawful detention which led the death of Mr. Adeda insisting that the Ministry cannot investigate itself. 

The CDHR also suggested that a Judicial inquest into the dèáth of Mr. Adeda to ensure transparency.

The CDHR expressed shock and outrage the report of the death of a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Secondary Education, Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe following an altercation with the Hon. Commissioner for Higher Education. 

According to CDHR,"The three facts before us are deeply disturbing:

1.  That there was an altercation between the Commissioner and a Deputy Director.

2.  That the Commissioner allegedly deployed personal enforcers/thugs who tied up, beat, and unlawfully detained the Deputy Director.
 
3.  That upon release, the officer was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead.

"Deltans, if this is true, then we are witnessing state-sponsored thuggery at the highest level.

"We recall that not long ago, another Commissioner was suspended, arrested and remanded for engaging in street rascality. Today, another Commissioner, a PhD holder, is alleged to have used thugs to kíłł a civil servant.

"A life has been lost. No title, no office, no PhD exempts anyone from the law. Personal enforcers/thugs have no place in government while every Commissioners must also realize that they are public servant, not a warlord. 

"The issue at hand is a criminal matter and cannot be treated as an internal disciplinary issue.

"Nigerians deserve a government of laws, not thugs. Civil servants deserve to work without fear of being beaten to death. We deserve a judicial system we can trust. If we allow this to slide, tomorrow it will be you, it will be me.

"CDHR Delta State calls on His Excellency, the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to act swiftly. Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done."
