Delta Police Arrest Six Suspected Cultists, Recover Four Guns, Drugs

The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during separate intelligence-led operations targeting suspected kidnappers and cult members in Ika South and Aniocha North Local Government Areas of the state.

The operations also led to the recovery of four firearms, six live cartridges, a battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones, suspected illicit drugs and military camouflage uniforms.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Sector III, Ubulu-Uku, on September 18, 2026, acting on credible intelligence, carried out a covert operation at Alisheme Community, Ika South LGA.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspected cultists, Destiny Okafor, 18, and Sunday Bryan, 22, who were allegedly involved in cultism and kidnapping-related activities.

During preliminary investigation, the suspects reportedly disclosed their membership of the NBM Confraternity.

Police said one locally fabricated single-barrelled gun, a battle axe, two cutlasses, mobile phones and a laptop were recovered from the suspects, who remain in custody as investigation continues.

In a separate operation on September 15, operatives of the Issele-Uku Police Division arrested four suspected cultists following a cordon-and-search operation around Ogboli Quarter and other parts of Issele-Uku.

The operation, led by the Divisional Police Officer and involving Police Anti-Cult personnel, vigilantes, hunters and Forest Security operatives, resulted in the recovery of two locally made pistols, one pump-action gun and six live cartridges.

Police said investigation into the case is ongoing.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU), Asaba, intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle allegedly conveying suspected illicit drugs and military accoutrements.

The operation followed intelligence that the vehicle was travelling from Onitsha towards Ondo State. The vehicle, a green Toyota Sienna with registration number KP 527 AAA, was intercepted at about 4:50 a.m. on September 18.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Isaac Urji from Abia State, was arrested after police searched the vehicle and recovered cartons of suspected Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs, as well as military camouflage uniforms, boots and hats.

The Command said investigation had commenced to trace the source and intended destination of the recovered items and identify other persons allegedly connected to the consignment.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism and the proliferation of illegal firearms across the state.

He urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to the police, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
