NNPCL Denies Ownership of Truck Intercepted With 2,145kg Cannabis in Ondo

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied ownership of a truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State with 2,145 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in a compartment.

In a statement, the oil company commended the NDLEA for its vigilance and professionalism in intercepting the vehicle and uncovering the illicit consignment.

NNPCL said the clarification became necessary following reports linking the intercepted truck to the national oil company.

The company stressed that the vehicle was not owned by NNPCL, distancing itself from the illicit consignment and any activities connected to the transportation of the cannabis.

It, however, welcomed the NDLEA's intervention and expressed support for a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the consignment and identify those responsible.

NNPCL reaffirmed its commitment to supporting relevant government agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and other forms of criminality in the country.

The company also pledged to uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance while cooperating with authorities on matters that could affect its operations and reputation.

The NDLEA had intercepted the truck during an intelligence-led operation in Ondo State, leading to the discovery of the large quantity of cannabis concealed in a compartment of the vehicle.

NNPCL urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
