N-Delta Group Hails Usoro Akpabio's Appointment As Secretary, Special Duties, APC Presidential Campaign Council

The Niger Delta Oil Communities Agenda (NIDOCA) has congratulated the Managing Director, South South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, on her appointment as Secretary, Special Duties, of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.

NIDOCA conveyed the congratulatory message in a statement issued on Tuesday in Warri, Delta State, and signed by its National Secretary, Pastor Emma Akpovoka.

The group, which is an advocacy organisation committed to promoting sustainable peace, inclusive development, good governance and the advancement of oil-producing communities across the Niger Delta, described Akpabio's appointment as a recognition of her competence, leadership capacity and track record of service.

According to NIDOCA, the appointment demonstrates the confidence reposed in Akpabio's ability to effectively discharge the responsibilities associated with the position and contribute meaningfully to the success of the 2027 APC presidential campaign.

“The appointment of Ms. Usoro Akpabio as Secretary, Special Duties, of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council is an attestation to her competence, capacity and ability to deliver effectively on the responsibilities entrusted to her,” the statement said.

NIDOCA also commended Akpabio for what it described as her commitment to the transformation and sustainable development of the South-South region, particularly in the areas of human capital and infrastructure.

The organisation noted that her leadership at the South South Development Commission comes at a critical period when concerted efforts are required to address the developmental challenges confronting communities across the region.

It expressed confidence that the SSDC, under its current leadership, would pursue initiatives capable of improving infrastructure, empowering young people, strengthening human capital development and promoting economic opportunities for residents of the South-South region.

The group therefore called on host communities, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, development partners and other stakeholders across the region to support and cooperate with the Board of the South South Development Commission.

The group stressed that collaboration among stakeholders would be essential to creating an enabling environment for the Commission to effectively implement its programmes and fulfil its developmental mandate.

It further appealed to stakeholders to work collectively with the Commission in addressing issues affecting the region, noting that sustainable development could only be achieved through partnership, dialogue and constructive engagement.

The group also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for establishing the South South Development Commission, describing the initiative as an important step towards addressing the developmental needs and aspirations of communities in the region.

The organisation, however, urged the Federal Government to provide the Commission with adequate financial resources, institutional support and other necessary logistics to enable it to effectively implement its programmes and achieve its objectives.

According to the group, the establishment of the Commission would only translate into meaningful development if it is backed by adequate funding.

NIDOCA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, development and improved living conditions in Niger Delta communities, while urging all stakeholders to work together towards building a more prosperous and sustainable South-South region.
