Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has alleged that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, sent thugs to destroy his campaign venue and attack him, his family members and supporters in the early hours of Thursday.

Omo-Agege made the allegation while commencing his campaign at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Wards 1, 2 and 3 in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, ahead of the 2027 general elections. The allegation came a day after he raised concerns over an alleged threat to his life and those of his family and supporters.

Addressing supporters at the campaign, Omo-Agege said: “Yesterday, I got a credible report from the governor threatening my life and that of my family members and supporters. Every venue we go, he will create and authorize violent attacks.” He further alleged that the incident occurred at about 5:30am, saying, “Around 5:30am this morning, I don't know if you are aware, he sent his thugs to this very location to come and scatter everything and injure our people. That's money. We can replace that. Thank God nothing happened.”

Omo-Agege said Delta State belongs to everyone and that citizens have the right to campaign for candidates of their choice. He warned Oborevwori, saying, “Nobody has the exclusive monopoly to violence.” He also appealed to Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeyemi, to hold the governor responsible if anything happens to him, his family members or supporters.

He further called on the international community, particularly the United States Embassy, to monitor political developments in Delta State. According to him, Oborevwori and the APC-led government have no campaign message and have therefore resorted to violence. Omo-Agege, however, vowed that his campaign team would defeat the Oborevwori administration in the 2027 election.

The latest allegation follows Omo-Agege’s warning on Wednesday over what he described as threats to his life and those of his family and supporters. The claims about the alleged threats and attack were made by Omo-Agege and are not independently established in the account provided.
