Osun Police Summon Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Threat Against Accord Members

The Osun State Police Command has summoned the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Francis Fadahunsi, over an alleged threat against members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of the state's governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

The command's spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development during a telephone interview, saying the senator had been invited by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, CP Samuel Etaifo.

“I can confirm that he (Fadahunsi) has been summoned by the CP. We will make a statement available regarding it,” Ojelabi said.

The invitation followed a viral video in which Fadahunsi, while speaking in Yoruba during a gathering in Ilesa, allegedly threatened members of the Accord Party ahead of the election.

The incident reportedly occurred at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland during a protest over the alleged killing of three members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa.

In the video, Fadahunsi was heard warning that Accord members should not be seen in Ilesa before the election, with comments interpreted as a threat of violence against them.

The development has generated widespread concern among political stakeholders as the state prepares for the governorship poll, with calls for security agencies to investigate inflammatory statements capable of triggering violence.

Another APC Chieftain Under Fire

The controversy also extends to Francis Eniade, the APC candidate for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.

In another video circulated on social media, Eniade allegedly warned non-APC supporters against coming out to vote in Odo Otin Local Government Area on election day.

He was quoted as saying that anyone who was not an APC member should not come out to vote, while claiming that all votes in the local government belonged to the APC.

The comments have further heightened concerns over the conduct of the election and the possibility of political intimidation or violence.

Adeleke Demands Senator's Arrest

Reacting to the alleged threat, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, called for the investigation and arrest of Fadahunsi, describing the senator's alleged remarks as a potential national security threat.

Adeleke said he had raised the matter with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and requested immediate action.

The governor expressed concern that statements threatening political opponents and their supporters could trigger widespread violence during the election.

“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President through the Office of the National Security Adviser,” Adeleke said.

Fadahunsi: I Was Misinterpreted

Fadahunsi, however, denied issuing the threat as portrayed in the viral video, alleging that his remarks were deliberately edited and taken out of context.

In a statement personally signed by him, the senator said his attention had been drawn to an edited version of his speech being circulated on social media.

He explained that his remarks were made in the context of alleged killings involving members of his political party and were intended to warn that his supporters would defend themselves if further attacks occurred.

According to him, the full speech lasted about 24 minutes, while less than two minutes had been extracted and circulated.

Fadahunsi alleged that the edited video was being used to achieve political objectives and insisted that his comments had been deliberately misrepresented.

The police invitation is expected to provide an opportunity for the senator to explain his remarks as the security agencies intensify preparations for Saturday's governorship election.

With political tensions rising ahead of the poll, stakeholders have urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to refrain from inflammatory statements and allow voters to exercise their constitutional rights without intimidation.

Security agencies are also expected to closely monitor political activities and respond to any conduct capable of threatening peace before, during and after the election.
