Gunmen Ambush, Kill Police Inspector As Delta CP Visits Scene In Ughelli North
Ughelli - A mobile Policeman attached to Mopol 51 PMF was ambushed and shot dead at a checkpoint as his AK-47 rifle carted away by the unknown gunmen in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased police officer, an Inspector was killed by his assailants from a nearby forest along Ohoro axis of the East/West road in Ughelli North Area.
This is just as the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeniyi Yemi weekend visited the (locus in quo) scene of the incident.
It could be recalled that in January 2024, three Mobile Police officers drafted from PMF 51, Oghara to a check point at Ohoro in Ughelli North were abducted by unknown gunmen.
Nearly two weeks after the incident, team of officers mobilized to rescue their colleagues were ambushed and killed around Ohoro forest and their decomposing corpes were recovered without their their arms.
According to security source, "Inspector Danladi Ahmed attached to PMF 51, was shot dead by suspected unknown gunmen at a checkpoint along Ohoro axis of the East/West road and his AK-47 rifle was stolen by the Hoodlums.
"The suspected hoodlums may have come from the near forest and shoot him in a very close range that led to his death and the corpse has been deposited at a the morgue."
Following the unfortunate incident, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Oyeniyi Yemi John in company of the Ughelli Area Commander and other senior officers visited the scene of the incident.
The CP visit in a statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, "The tour covered critical points including, Edjekota junction, Evwreni juntion, Ohoro junction, and other stop and search points along the expressway, where he assessed security deployments and addressed officers on duty.
"He commended their efforts while reminding them that the command will not tolerate any form of misconduct or complaints from the public.
"He charged officers to remain vigilant, observe professionally, and engage members of the public with courtesy and respect as he warned against any form of abuse, harassment, or incivility.
"Policing must be carried out with a human face and in strict adherence to human rights standards.
"The CP reassured residents of the command’s under his leadership is committed to ensuring the safety of life and property, while urging members of the public to support the Police with credible and timely information."
