The President-General(PG) of Aladja Community Council in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr. Richard Lafua on Sunday May 3 fled the community as a protest against cultists and their activities erupted in the Community.
Indigenes of Aladja Community embarked on a peaceful protest with dance steps round the community dropped branches of leaves at the compounds of the leaders of the Community.
The peaceful protesters who chanted solidarity songs, issued the PG and the Oghuvwie General(Prime minister) of Aladja Community, Elder James Maiko seven(7)day ultimatum to address the issues of cultism especially the re-integration of cultists into the Community amongst others.
"Mr President, for the one thousandth time, and for your benefit you and whoever is affected are given a week to address the three matters presented during our protest Viz
"1. No to return of the cultists
"2. Electricity: explain why other communities always have electricity while we remain in blackout whereas we share the same line from ECN and the misappropriation by your immediate past Light Committee
"3. Your setting up a parallel Security outfit to rival the already existing one which have committed no wrong in the eyes of the general public."
The protesters which comprises of some elders, men, women and youths said if their demands are not met within the next seven(7) days, they will return with a "Mother for all" protest stressing that it will not do anyone good.
In a chat with Our Correspondent, 2nd Vice President of Aladja Community Council,Ufuomaefe Emmanuel Tugherhu said the protest is very "peaceful".
Tugheru who said the oath of office he swore as 2nd Vice of President of Aladja Community Council is to defend the interest of the Community. He picked on the comments purportedly made by the Oghuvwie(Prime minister) of the Community.
According to him,"I dey talk am some leaders dey betray the town. Just imagine the way God expose Oghuvwie today. The kind comments he made today shows they've been holding noctornal meetings behind.
"From their meeting they held, I heard that this May ending on 31st, they will tell the boys(cultists) to return back to the town. He is saying, the boys are our children. We all agree they're our children. Even God who created devil that could not control the devil again, chased him down from his sight.
"You are saying you want 49 cultists should come back and disturb about 1million people that are in Aladja?
"Thank God they're exposing themselves. We are waiting for them. If some of the leaders in the town are corrupt, I am not among those who are corrupt. I ready to fight this fight to the end without fear or favour. If they like, they should hold their meetings in their covens in the day, night or afternoon, that's their business.
"It is not only the leaders that have the right in the Community. The subjects also have rights. It's what the masses wants that we will do for them."
Tugheru the people of Aladja Community should not be afraid of anybody as well as deviate from evil and follow the path of good which is light.
It was learnt that the PG later returned to the community at night and held a meeting with some persons where it was allegedly concluded/agreed that the cultists who were chased out of the Community will be re-integrated back on May 31.
The dropping leaves in Aladja Community has long served as a symbolic and quiet warning but powerful message of rejection.
It also reflects the collective dissatisfaction and signals that the people no longer accept decisions made without their voice by leaders of the community.
