BREAKING: Primary school student crushed to death by construction truck in Uvwie
Tragedy struck on Monday along MCC Road in Enerhen, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, as a secondary school student (yet to be identified) was reportedly crushed to death by a heavy-duty truck belonging to construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
The victim, said to be a Primary School student, who's elder sister reportedly is preparing for her forthcoming examination before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the truck, allegedly attached to the ongoing drainage construction project in the area, ran over the student, killing her on the spot. The incident has sparked fresh concerns among residents over safety measures at the construction site.
Residents lamented that this was not the first fatal incident linked to the ongoing drainage work. They recalled that a young child had previously fallen into the deep drainage under construction by the company and died.
In another separate incident, a child reportedly fell into the drainage but was rescued alive.
“This is the third time something like this is happening here. They should come and complete this project quickly and ensure proper safety measures are put in place,” a resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official comments from the Public Relations Department of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and the Delta State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls made to their respective lines did not connect.
Meanwhile, residents have called on the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and enforce stricter safety protocols around the construction zone to prevent further loss of lives.
