Gloria, Faith pay tributes as they bury mother in Delta
Mrs. Gloria Ugheakpoteni and her sister, Faith, have paid glowing tributes to their late mother, Mrs. Oruhwevyiruhwo Florence Onadevuaye Asore, who died at the age of 72.
The sisters spoke with our correspondent at Ewu Community, their father’s country home, where their mother’s remains made a brief stop before the outing service held in Orhoakpor Community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Mrs. Gloria, wife of Mr. Ejovwo Kelvin Ugheakpoteni, said, “Today is my mother’s burial. I am laying her here to rest today.” She added, “I missed so many things about my mum. She was a wonderful mother, a lovely mum. She was very, very precious to me, and she was a kind woman.”
Also speaking, Mrs. Faith said, “My mummy has passed away. She’s going to be missed amongst us, the children, between me and my sister. But her good legacies speak. She was nice to people, and we pray that her legacies continue.”
During the outing service at St. Phillip’s African Church, Orhoakpor, the officiating minister, Ven. John Okiti, described the late Mrs. Asore as “very humble” and one who lived a life worthy of emulation. The cleric, who was flanked by the host minister, Ven. Lucky E. Edegha, urged the congregation to live righteous lives and serve God in truth and in spirit.
Ven. Okiti, who drew his sermon from Revelation 20:11, noted that God sees all that people do and admonished the laity to make their ways right with God in order to gain eternal life. The remains of Mrs. Oruhwevyiruhwo Florence Onadevuaye Asore were later laid to rest in Orhoakpor Community under the supervision of her children and family members.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ejovwo Kelvin Ugheakpoteni condoled with his wife, Mrs. Gloria, and the entire Asore family over the loss. Accompanied by family members and friends, he performed traditional dances in line with Urhobo customs to greet and condole with the family and was traditionally received by his wife and members of the Asore family.
Men from both families danced and clashed their walking sticks while chanting, “Useh’ Userigho.” Guests were later entertained at a reception held at Otorho Primary School, Orhoakpor Community. The late Mrs. Oruhwevyiruhwo Florence Onadevuaye Asore died at the age of 72.
