2027: Don’t contest against Oborevwori, Ijaw leader urges politicians
Renowned Niger Delta environmental and human rights activist, Chief Sheriff Mulade, PhD, has appealed to politicians in Delta State not to challenge Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 governorship election.
Mulade made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Asaba, the state capital, following the groundbreaking ceremony of the N59.7 billion Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover at Uromi Junction in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The Ijaw leader and development advocate, who holds the traditional title of Ibe Serimowei of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, praised Governor Oborevwori for the successful execution of the project’s groundbreaking ceremony and expressed satisfaction with his overall performance.
“We just witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for yet another flyover in the state. Only recently, he did that of Ughelli, and today we just witnessed that of Agbor,” Mulade said.
He added, “This is going to strengthen economic activities in this area. He should be commended for coming to our rescue.”
Speaking further, Mulade noted that the governor had demonstrated clear readiness for leadership since assuming office.
“The Governor has shown that he came prepared for the job of piloting the affairs of our dear state and he has never disappointed us,” he stated.
Chief Mulade also commended Governor Oborevwori for the recent presentation of 65 Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers across the state, describing the gesture as timely and commendable.
“Gentlemen of the press, I want to also use this medium to thank our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the recent presentation of 65 brand new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state,” he said.
According to him, “He is doing very well and we are proud of him. He values our traditional rulers, who are the custodians of our customs.”
Mulade emphasized that the scale of development witnessed across Delta State under the current administration justified a second term for the governor.
“With the unprecedented development we have witnessed in the state, we should encourage him to go for a second term and it is my appeal to our politicians not to distract him by contesting against the governor, who has performed extremely well since he became a governor,” he said.
He further expressed optimism that more projects would be inaugurated in the coming months, particularly in riverine communities.
“We are expecting more projects to flag-off across the state, particularly riverine areas this year,” Mulade added.
