BREAKING: Court stops Rivers CJ from receiving directive from Assembly

A Rivers State High Court of Oyibo Local Government Area, sitting in Port Harcourt has barred the Chief Judge of the State, Simeon Chibuzor Amadi from receiving any letter from the State House of Assembly on the move to impeach the Governor of the State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Prof Ngozi Nma Odu. 

The Court gave the order in two separate suits filed by the Governor of the State, Fubara and his Deputy, Odu in suits OYHC/7CS/2026 and SUIT NO. OYHC/ 6/CS/2026. 

The court gave the Interim Order of Injunction against the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and thirty two others including the clerk of the house and Chief Judge of Rivers State.

The order restrained the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Amadi from receiving, forwarding, considering and or however acting on any request, resolution, articles of impeachment or other document or communication from nu one to the 27th Defendants for the purposes of constituting a panel to investigate the purported allegations of misconduct against the Governor and his Deputy for seven days.

The Presiding Judge, Justice F.A Fiberesima, in the ruling in a motion experte in the two separate suit by Fubara and Odu also grated leave to Claimants applicants to serve the interim order, the originating processes in the suits No OYHC/7CS/2026 and SUIT NO. OYHC/ 6/CS/2026 and all other subsequent processes meant for first to thirty one defendants at the gate of the Rivers State Assembly quarter.

The Court also directed that the interim order, the originating processes in the suits be served on the number 32 defendent who is the Chief Judge of the state through any staff of Judiciary at the Chief Judge's Chambers within the high premises.

Fiberesima, thereafter adjourned the case till the 23rd of January, 2026 for motion.
