BREAKING NEWS: CP Aina Adesola Assumes Duty as 23rd Commissioner of Police in Delta
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the assumption of duty of Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, as the 23rd Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
CP Adesola takes over from AIG Olufemi Abaniwonda, who was recently promoted and redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Department of Operations.
According to the police, CP Aina Adesola was born on September 2, 1968, and hails from Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Ondo State University (1990) and was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in June 1994 after training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
He was first deployed to Delta State in 1996, serving in Ogwashi-Uku, and has since held several strategic operational, investigative, administrative and training positions across the country. His career postings include serving as Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Aswani Division (2012–2015), Officer-in-Charge, Homicide, Edo State Command (2016), and most recently as Deputy Commandant, Police College, Ikeja, following his promotion to Commissioner of Police in 2025.
In January 2026, he was deployed to Delta State to head the command.
While formally assuming office, CP Adesola pledged to build on existing security frameworks and strengthen proactive policing strategies across Delta State. He urged residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies, while advising youths to resist criminal inducement.
In his handing-over remarks, AIG Abaniwonda expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government and residents for their cooperation during his tenure and appealed to them to extend the same support to his successor.
