Akpabio fires back at critics over fake anti-Trump comment

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed reports claiming he made a derogatory remark against former United States President Donald Trump, describing the publication as a baseless fabrication by mischief makers.

The report, which surfaced online, had alleged that Akpabio insulted Trump and advised him to focus on America’s domestic challenges.

But in a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President debunked the claim, branding it a deliberate attempt to create diplomatic tension and mislead the public.

“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and entirely fabricated report falsely attributing a reckless statement to the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio,” Eyiboh stated.

According to the publication, Akpabio allegedly said, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria, not in the USA. Trump should focus on America. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings; we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”

Reacting, Eyiboh said the supposed quote was pure falsehood designed to sow discord between Akpabio and President Trump, and by extension, between Nigeria and its international allies.

He noted that the photo used in the online post was deceptively attached to lend credibility to a fabricated statement, insisting that the Senate President never made such comments publicly or privately.

“Senator Akpabio is a statesman of global standing and a strong advocate of diplomacy, mutual respect, and international cooperation,” Eyiboh clarified.

“He holds President Trump in high esteem and would never interfere in the domestic affairs of another nation, nor issue statements beyond the remit of Nigeria’s Executive or foreign policy establishment.”

Eyiboh described the report as a deliberate act of digital recklessness aimed at stirring unnecessary diplomatic misunderstanding and tarnishing the Senate President’s image.

He urged Nigerians and the international community to disregard the falsehood, reaffirming that the office of the Senate President remains committed to truth, transparency, and responsible communication both locally and globally.
