Okpebholo pushes Edo’s economic growth through large scale Agriculture

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to diversifying the state’s economy through large-scale agriculture, describing it as a key driver of food security, job creation, and sustainable growth.

The Governor made this known during an inspection tour of the State-owned Udomi Farm in Edo Central Senatorial District, where he led top government officials to assess ongoing agricultural projects.

Governor Okpebholo said his government was not content with making promises on paper but was determined to bring visible, measurable results that would directly impact the lives of Edo people.

“It is a practical farm by my administration that delivers on practical governance. That is what you are seeing here. We do not just talk; we do it for you to see,” he stated, gesturing towards the vast expanse of farmland already yielding results.

He commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its efforts in driving the state’s agricultural agenda, adding that the Udomi Farm project reflects a new era of action-oriented governance. The Governor further emphasized that his administration’s agricultural push would not only ensure food sufficiency but also empower local farmers and strengthen Edo’s agro-industrial base.

“The Udomi Farm represents a shift from rhetoric to reality,” he said. “We are building systems that guarantee food for our people, create jobs, and expand economic opportunities across Edo State.”

Conducting the Governor and his entourage around the facility, the Director of Agricultural Services in the Ministry, Ogunbo Osarobo David, revealed that the maize cultivated at the farm had reached the harvesting stage. He disclosed that the farm is recording an impressive yield of between six to seven tons of maize per hectare across 400 hectares, with Prime Flour Mill, Ewu, serving as the major off-taker.

Before the farm inspection, Governor Okpebholo also visited the site of the ongoing Benin Flyover project at Ramat Park, Benin City, to assess the pace of work. The day’s inspection tour, he noted, underscores his administration’s focus on practical governance and the delivery of tangible projects that drive development across all sectors of Edo State.
