In what has been hailed as a landmark investment in inmate rehabilitation, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has donated a newly constructed two-storey educational facility to the Warri Medium Security Custodial Centre.

The facility, inaugurated on Tuesday, will host a National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Study Centre, giving inmates the rare opportunity to pursue higher education while serving their sentences.

The colourful ceremony drew dignitaries from across the state, including representatives of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Divisional Police Officer of Ogborikoko Police Station, and Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, media aide to Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

Speaking at the launch, Tantita’s Managing Director, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin Ebimorbowe Pondi, FNSE, FNIIS, said the project demonstrates the company’s conviction that security is not only about protecting assets but also about transforming lives.

“This modern building is not just an investment in bricks and mortar. It represents opportunity, hope, and the belief that every person, regardless of their past, can be transformed through education. It represents a second chance,” Pondi declared.

The new structure houses eight fully furnished classrooms, an administrative office, modern toilets, a borehole water system, and a solar-powered inverter. Pondi noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s 2019 reform that rebranded Nigerian prisons as correctional centres shifting the focus from punishment to rehabilitation and reintegration.

He commended the Nigerian Correctional Service for its collaboration and singled out the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Warri Custodial Centre, DCC Richard Egbede, for his support.

“This may be described as corporate social responsibility, but to us at Tantita, it is more than that. It is a moral duty and a social investment. Nigeria can only be truly secure when her people are empowered, rehabilitated, and given a chance to thrive,” he added.

The Warri project follows Tantita’s renovation of the historic Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna, which was commissioned last week by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Stakeholders at the inauguration praised the new education block as a beacon of hope, saying it will empower inmates with knowledge and skills that can aid their reintegration into society and reduce recidivism.

With this intervention, Tantita has once again extended its reach beyond its core security mandate, proving that nation-building requires both vigilance and compassion.
