Izeze: Stormwater drain project to provide lasting solution to Asaba flooding

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has assured residents that the ongoing stormwater drainage project in Asaba will finally address the city’s long standing flooding problem.

During an inspection of the multi billion naira project on Tuesday, Izeze explained that the flood control network runs through Summit Road, Nwelih Street, St. Patrick’s College, West-End Mixed Secondary School, and Uche Medua Igeh, linking to the Amilimocha Stream in Oshimili South Local Government Area. He said the initiative reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to meaningful development, realistic reforms, peace, and security.

The Commissioner commended the governor’s “audacity and courage in keeping the covenant he made with Deltans,” describing the project as part of that promise. He added that after inspecting the work from chainage 0 to 650, he was confident in the quality, noting that the consulting firm had demonstrated both capacity and experience in supervising the project.

Izeze explained that the masterplan covers a total of 6,519 metres of drains, with the current section spanning one kilometre. He expressed optimism that this phase would be completed in December and inaugurated by the governor. According to him, the one kilometre stretch will significantly reduce flooding around the DBS area, Anwai Road, and adjoining streets, and once the entire project is delivered, it will conclude the original stormwater plan for Asaba, ensuring that flooding becomes a thing of the past.

He further described the project as evidence that Governor Oborevwori is “a promise keeper and a governor for all Deltans,” stressing that residents and visitors would soon see Asaba transformed into a flood-free city.
