Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a young woman abducted in Niger State and held captive in Delta.

The victim, identified as Rebecca Mathew, was among several girls reportedly abducted from northern Nigeria and kept in a house at Oza Nogogo community, Ika South Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, said the suspect, Bila Halili, 30, from Kosso community in Sokoto State, was arrested during an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division, CSP Obekpa Michael.

According to Edafe, preliminary checks indicated that the victim appeared to have been hypnotised. She later narrated that the suspect lured her away from her family home, destroyed her SIM card to prevent communication, and took her into captivity.

“Further investigation led the operatives to the victim’s mother, Esther Moses, of Bodinga community in Niger State, who confirmed that her daughter had been missing since September 2, 2025, and that a complaint had already been lodged with the Niger State Police Command,” Edafe said.

The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.
