Obi, who disclosed the visit in a post on his official X handle, described Jonathan as “an elder brother, a statesman, and leader,” noting that their discussions centered on national issues.

“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan. We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation,” Obi wrote.

Although the details of their deliberations were not revealed, the meeting comes at a time of heightened conversations about Nigeria’s political direction and governance under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, has in recent years taken on the role of mediator in both national and continental affairs, particularly in the areas of conflict resolution and democratic strengthening across Africa.

Obi, on the other hand, has continued to hold consultations with key stakeholders following his strong performance in the 2023 elections, where he emerged third behind President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The meeting marks the latest in Obi’s ongoing engagements with influential political figures as discussions on Nigeria’s future political alignments.
