The governor said his administration remains committed to transforming the health sector through strategic reforms and better support for medical professionals.

“It was a pleasure to host the leadership of NARD today. Together, we discussed ways we could collectively change the narrative in our state’s health sector and build systems that deliver real value to our people,” Oborevwori stated.

During the visit, the governor was presented with an Award of Excellence by NARD in recognition of his contributions to the welfare of doctors and the advancement of healthcare in Delta State. He described the award as a treasured honour.

“I am deeply grateful for this Award of Excellence. It is not just for me but for the entire Delta family as we work together to improve healthcare delivery,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori also appealed to the association to reconsider its proposed nationwide warning strike, stressing that such actions disrupt critical medical services and endanger patients.

“While we recognise your grievances, I urge you to reconsider the planned strike. Industrial actions in the health sector often put the lives of ordinary citizens at risk, and that is something we must all work to avoid,” the governor urged.

He reminded the doctors that Delta State is already leading by example in prioritising their welfare, pointing out that the state is the first in Nigeria to pay the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) for 2025.

“This government will continue to champion your interests and welfare. Delta is the first state in the country to pay the 2025 MRTF, and we will not relent in doing the right things for our medical professionals,” he assured.

The visit by NARD leadership marks a renewed collaboration between the state government and resident doctors, aimed at building a more resilient health sector in Delta.
