Train Compartment Detaches Near Ladipo, Causes Panic But No Casualties

Confusion broke out on Thursday morning after a train compartment detached from the rest of the coaches along the Ladipo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, temporarily disrupting movement and sparking safety concerns.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. as the train, traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos, suddenly lost its rear compartment mid-motion.
Eyewitness Oloruntoba Omodele described the scene as chaotic but confirmed there were no injuries.
"All the passengers were taken aback, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.
The detachment caused a 30-minute delay and added to the usual congestion in the Ladipo area, a zone already notorious for heavy traffic and frequent road incidents. Emergency responders arrived swiftly to manage the situation and ease the traffic buildup.
While authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of the malfunction, the incident has reignited calls for stricter rail safety protocols and urgent maintenance of railway infrastructure—particularly in high-density, high-traffic corridors such as Lagos.
Transport observers have urged the relevant agencies to launch a thorough investigation and implement stronger oversight to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
