Udu Chairman Brokers Peace in Okolor–Ogbe-Udu Land Dispute, Sets Up 7-Man Committee

In a proactive move to maintain peace and order in Udu Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman of the Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP FCIA, has waded into a land dispute between the Mohwe Family of Okolor Inland and the Ekribovwe Quarters of Ogbe-Udu.
The intervention came following a petition dated July 18, 2025, submitted by the Mohwe Family to the Udu Council Chairman, alleging that the Ekribovwe quarters had encroached into their ancestral land.
At a peace meeting convened by the Council Chairman today Monday 28/07/25 at Udu Local Government Secretariat the two families/ communities presented conflicting claims over the disputed land. While the Okolor Inland family referred to the area as Okele Mohwe, the Ekribovwe quarters identified it as Okele Makpacha Farmland.
To ensure a fair and thorough investigation into the matter, the Udu Council Chairman constituted a 7-man committee to look into the claims and counterclaims. The committee is chaired by Hon. Joseph Yoregua, with Mr. Lius Okima, Mr. Joseph Golah, Hon. Jonathan Okoro, Hon. Victor Sele, Hon. Joseph Okoro, and Mr. Emoefe Amos serving as Secretary. The committee has been given 21 days to submit its findings and recommendations.
In his address, Olorogun(Hon.) Oyibode cautioned both parties to stay away from the disputed land during the investigation period.
"No party should enter or take any action on the disputed land for the next 3 weeks. If anyone is found there, it will be considered trespass, and legal actions will follow. Any crisis resulting from such actions will attract charges of attempting to incite communal unrest, which is a criminal offense,” he warned.
The Chairman further encouraged both families to consider an amicable resolution, stressing that peaceful dialogue and humility pave the way for lasting peace.
"If you can come together and resolve the matter amicably, it will be better for everyone. Dropping egos makes peaceful resolution possible. As the Bible says, humility brings peace,” he added.
This latest intervention underscores the Oyibode-led administration’s commitment to peacebuilding, justice, and communal harmony in Udu.
