President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on members of the Super Falcons and their coaching crew following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
At a reception held Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the President commended the players for their "indomitable spirit of resilience, determination, and courage," adding that their 3–2 comeback win against hosts Morocco was a moment of immense national pride.
To reward the team, President Tinubu announced the following:
National Honours: OON conferred on all 24 players and the 11-man technical crew
Monetary Gifts: \$100,000 (naira equivalent) to each player and \$50,000 to each member of the technical team.
Housing: Allocation of a three-bedroom apartment for every player and coach.
Speaking lightheartedly, the President revealed that he chose not to watch the final live, joking that he wanted to avoid high blood pressure due to the suspense of the match.
The Super Falcons’ victory marks their 10th WAFCON title, reinforcing their dominance in African women’s football and earning praise from across the continent.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who earlier presented the trophy to the President, thanked the Federal Government for its support and promised continued excellence in future competitions.
