Ganduje Appointed FAAN Board Chairman Amid Rumors of Kwankwaso’s Possible APC Move

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The announcement was made during the official inauguration ceremony for newly appointed FAAN board members held in Abuja. The event drew several key figures from the aviation industry and top government officials.

This new appointment comes just days after Ganduje officially resigned from his role as National Chairman of the APC, a move that has fueled political speculation nationwide.

Ganduje’s resignation has sparked discussions about potential high-level political realignments. Among the most talked-about theories is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be preparing to bring Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso Ganduje’s longtime political rival and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate into the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strongly denied any such move. In an interview with Arise News, Galadima dismissed claims that Kwankwaso is planning to defect to the ruling party.

"Kwankwaso is not joining the APC. He remains firmly committed to the NNPP. The rumors are political spin with no basis in reality,” Galadima said.

He also addressed speculations that Ganduje was removed to make room for Kwankwaso, stating clearly that the former Kano governor’s exit from the APC leadership had nothing to do with the opposition figure.

While political watchers continue to debate the timing of Ganduje’s resignation and his swift appointment to the FAAN board, no official statement has linked the two events. Still, many believe the development could signal a larger political strategy in motion.

Ganduje and Kwankwaso have a long history of rivalry dating back to their time in Kano State politics, and any possible reconciliation or crossover would mark a significant shift ahead of the next election cycle

As Ganduje takes on his new role at FAAN, all eyes remain on the APC's next political moves. Whether or not Kwankwaso joins the ruling party, the undercurrents of 2027 are beginning to stir and Nigeria’s political landscape may soon shift once again.
