11 Years Later: The Chibok Girls' Struggle for Justice

It has been 11 years since the world was shocked by the abduction of the Chibok girls, young schoolgirls taken from their school in Northern Nigeria. Yet, despite the passing of over a decade, 90 of these girls remain missing, with no clear answers about their fate.

In a recent interview on Arise News, Ayo Obe, a respected lawyer and former president of the Civil Liberties Organisation(CLO), raised serious concerns about the ongoing mystery. She revealed that the most recent report regarding the girls, compiled by Brigadier Sabo, has been classified by the government, keeping the truth locked away. According to Obe, this continued secrecy has only fueled suspicions that the full story is being concealed from the public.

The abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014 made international headlines, with calls for action coming from around the world. However, more than a decade later, the situation remains largely unchanged. While a few of the girls have been released or escaped over the years, the majority are still missing, and their families continue to live in suspense, waiting for news.

Obe’s comments about the classified reports have raised alarms. Despite years of government promises and efforts to locate the girls, many Nigerians remain frustrated by the lack of transparency. Obe suggests that it’s not just about national security but about justice for the families who deserve to know the fate of their loved ones.

Obe also pointed another disturbing possibility of some of the girls forced into marriages, while others might have been taken outside Nigeria, much like the Dapchi girls. The idea that these young women could have been trafficked or subjected to violence beyond the country’s borders only deepens the tragedy and raises more questions about the government’s handling of the case.
