DELSU VC Admonishes Newly admitted Students to Shun Social Vices on Campus
The Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Abraka, Prof. Samuel Oghenovo Asagba has admonished the newly admitted students of the institution to shun social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, yahoo plus and others as they are capable of ruining their academic career and dreams in life.
Prof. Asagba stated this on Saturday at the matriculation of the newly admitted eight thousand, five hundred and ninety-eight(8,598) students of 2024/2025 academic session.
According to him, peace is paramount to meaningful academic pursuit hence the institution has continued to wave war and will continue to wage a relentless war against nefarious activities on campus adding that, any students found to be a member of secret cults would be shown the way out of the University.While congratulating the students for successful admission, he said they are the privileged few who gained admission out of the whole lot of ten thousand who applied for admission in the university this academic session just as he told them that as they settle down for academic activities, they are major stakeholders in the institution and as such it is necessary for them to maintain the school's santity and its esteemed image and remain focused for academic work at all times in order for them to achieve a fruitful academic career.
"As students, you should comfort yourself very well, observe the rules and regulations of this University and refrain from indiscipline and refrain from activities which are inimical to the growth of intellectualism, and refrain from indiscipline and refrain from lawlessness particularly when such involve violence, cultism.." he said.
Prof. Asagba said Delta State University is one of the fourth generation Universities in Nigeria that was established in 1992 by His Excellency, Late Olorogun Felix Ibru, the first Executive Governor of the state adding, the school has grown from modest beginning to highly rated citadel of learning and it has continued to grow in the pursuit of its primary objectives as this has resulted in harmonious relationships.
According to him, the result of the growth is the turning out of responsible graduates who have continued to contribute positively not only to Nigerian society but the world at large.
The Vice Chancellor of the enviable institution said, Delta State University has distinguished itself as one of the centres of academic excellence and has become an attraction for candidates seeking admissions into tertiary institutions saying that, it was due to the track records of maintaining smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar over the years.
Prof Asagba used the opportunity to express gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Delta State government for efforts so far made to ensure that the school attains speedy growth and development.
" I wish to use this opportunity to express our profound appreciation to Executive and Visitor to Delta State University, Abraka, Rt Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O.Oborevwori and Government of Delta State for giant strides taken in the overall development of the University. On our part, we will remain focused in our pursuit of academic excellence..." The Vice Chancellor also promised to use the available resources given to the school judiciously for maximum results. "We will pursue the prudent management of the meagre resources of the University for its overall development", he added.
The ceremony which was attended by top management of the institution as well as parents and well wishers of the matriculants climaxed with the administration of matriculation oath on the students amidst cheers.
