DELSUTH receives girl shot by Police in Abraka for treatment as culprit arrested
Delta State University Teaching Hospital, DELSUTH, Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State has received Miss Hilda Rukevwe John for proper examinations.
The victim was in a stable condition before she was referred from Dunflux hospital, Abraka to a private hospital(name withheld) due to the fact that her condition requires specialised knowledge because of the wounds she sustained from the gunshots.
It was learnt that bullets penetrated through the intestine, down through the kidney of the victim who was said to be a final year student of the Delta State University, Abraka, from the department of Physiology, where she was supposed to sign-out tomorrow, Monday.
It was learnt by PEBNEWS that she is being attended to and prepared for surgical session.
Dr. Paul Onuogbo who is in charge of the Emergency Unit, DELSUTH, assured that they will do their best to ensure that the process is smooth.
The Director of Health, Delta State University, Abraka,Dr. Simeon Onakugwortor has been on ground since last night to ensure Miss. Rukevwe is given the best of attention at the hospital.
Miss Hilda was shot by Policemen attached to VIP in front of Oria-Abraka Secondary School yesterday.
Commenting on the development, a
group under the auspices of Initiative for Social Rights Concerns And Advancements(ISRCA) aka “No Justice, No Peace Initiative.” has said the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Surajudeen Olufemi Abaniwonda should not hesitate to probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident to bring the Police Officers responsible to book.
ISRCA National Co-ordinator, Comrade Comr. (Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen specifically called for the immediate arrest of the Policemen involved in dastardly act.
The group said: "Students and members of the Civil Society will not hesitate but lead a protest until the Police Officers are arrested and brought book. We’ll stop at nothing until we get justice."
According to the group: "From the response of the DPO, Abraka; SP Fabian Ayameh, who had detained five workers on the site, where the road construction is ongoing, that had witnessed the incident but played to ignorant until they later co-operated. SP Fabian Ayameh in a chat with the victim’s family, said that the contractor in-charge of the ongoing project, where the incident occurred, has promised to take full responsibility for the the cost and further excesses which did not go well with the family, friends, course mates and the Civil Society."
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe who confirmed the incident to our Correspondent in a telephone chat on Sunday, said the Police Officer who shot the victim has been identified and arrested.
